Air New Zealand, the airline that produced in-flight safety videos featuring flight crew members wearing nothing but painted-on clothes, is going to another extreme to get passengers to pay attention to the safety instructions.

The airline has recruited frenetic, rhinestone-adorned fitness guru Richard Simmons to record an on-board video that is part safety instruction and part workout routine.

The video includes a quick cameo by Air New Zealand Chief Executive Rob Fyfe, wearing pink shorts and a purple headband.

The new ‘Fit to Fly’ safety video goes live today on board the airline’s narrow-body aircraft fleets and will be shown on the wide-body aircraft starting May 1.

Two previous in-flight videos starring Air New Zealand flight crew wearing painted-on clothes has had about 6 million views each on YouTube.com, while another video featuring New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby team has had more than 800,000 views.
