Mark Stokes, 32, and his girlfriend Hillary McCrum, 27, just got a new condo in need of a washer and dryer. What better reason to stand in line with hundreds of other people at the Sears store at South Coast Plaza at 2:45 a.m.?

“The doorbusters are great, and we scoped out the lines at Target and Wal-Mart and they were ridiculous,” said McCrum, an interior designer from Huntington Beach.

Added Stokes, a tax accountant from Long Beach: “We never had a reason to buy big-ticket items before.”

Some expected hot sellers include 40-inch LCD televisions for $497, kitchen appliances, electronics and tools. Sean Hosseinzadeh, 24, was in line with his fiancee, looking for tools and a TV.

For his second Black Friday, the Huntington Beach-based firefighter was looking to spend up to $300 on himself.

“I’m hoping there won’t be line-cutters, and that there will be fair transactions.”
