September 30, 2010 |  6:00 am

Global investigations firm Kroll has chosen former Los Angeles City Councilman Jack Weiss to lead its Los Angeles office, the company announced Thursday morning.

Weiss served on the council from 2001 to 2009. Before that, he spent six years as an assistant U.S. attorney based in Los Angeles.

Kroll provides business intelligence and investigations services and has offices in 55 cities and 27 countries.

In a news release, Kroll said it hoped that Weiss would “expand the spectrum of services” the company provides to corporations and law firms in Southern California. The New York-based company previously named former Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton as its chairman.
