Times staff writer Zohreen Adamjee interviews business columnist David Lazarus about how he got the idea for his column on seemingly misleading practices by the country’s largest payday lender.

David isn’t new to getting information in unusual ways: He once got confidential documents from a source by retrieving an envelope from behind a statue in a corporate lobby.
