After yesterday’s trip to bizarroland, this is what Mini has brought us -- a pair of new two-seaters based on the Mini Cooper to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary. While the Mini Coupe and Roadster concepts might look a bit smaller than their hatchback brethren, the fact is that they are actually just about the same as the current Minis from the belt-line down, so we expect the dynamics to be largely similar to today’s Mini Cooper. Not a bad thing at all.

With the rear seats now out of the picture (let’s face it, who was using them anyway?), a few extra cubic feet of cargo space have been freed up. In theory Mini could fit a big, fat brace back there to beef up the car’s rigidity and reduce chassis flex -- and knowing Mini’s affinity for accessories, we wouldn’t doubt one is in the works for the production car. Wait, production car?
Strangely enough, BMW has already confirmed these two concepts are headed for production, though it remains unknown just how similar to the concepts the final production cars will be or when they will start rolling out of the company’s Oxford plant. In all likelihood the final models will be quite close to the concepts, but it really doesn’t matter. They’re Minis, and therefore too adorable not to sell.
