John Schnatter knows a thing or two about pizza: With more than 3,400 pizza restaurants in 29 countries, his Papa John’s chain is one of the largest in the world.

But starting today from the company’s Louisville, Ky., headquarters, Schnatter goes on the road searching for another love, this one lost: the 1972 Z28 Camaro he sold in 1984.

The $1,600 he pulled in from that sale went toward old restaurant equipment, which Schnatter used to launch his doughy enterprise out of a broom closet in his father’s tavern.

He’ll spend the summer driving a replica of the Camaro through the country and making surprise deliveries, passing through Los Angeles.

There’s a $25,000 finder’s fee to be had for whoever leads the 47-year-old Schnatter to the relic of his early days. Two interns will blog about his journey while providing clues about the car. And, of course, ads will highlight the trip.

Whether the Camaro will supplant Schnatter’s current car, a Cadillac Escalade, is yet to be determined.
