U.S. gas prices shot up 25 cents over the past three weeks to an average of $2.30 a gallon for regular-grade fuel, according to the national Lundberg Survey.

Through about a month of price jumps, the average per-gallon gas price remains $1.49 lower than the $3.79 average the country was paying this time last year, the survey said.

Phoenix had the lowest gas price in the nation last week with $1.99 per gallon, while Chicago has the highest price per gallon at $2.63, the Lundberg survey reported.
