The number of people killed by the H1N1 flu virus in Mexico has jumped to 42, Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova announced this morning.

As of Tuesday night, Cordova said 29 people were confirmed to have died from the virus and none in the month of May. But today he said a faster rate of testing was confirming cases more quickly.

He said the higher figure did not represent a new wave of infection; however, five people died in the last six days, he said.
