Daylight saving time begins Sunday

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, so don't forget to set clocks ahead one hour before going to sleep Saturday. 

Los Angeles Fire Department officials reminded people that it's also a good time to check the batteries on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. It just takes a minute and can save lives, fire officials say.

With darkness lingering an hour longer, the Automobile Club of Southern California warned drivers to be on the watch for schoolchildren and other pedestrians in the early morning hours.
