CHP pursues burglary suspect through streets of L.A.

A high-speed chase that wound through the streets of downtown Los Angeles and into South L.A. began when California Highway Patrol officers chased after a burglary suspect in the City of Industry, officials said.

The chase ended about 12:30 p.m. in South L.A., and authorities were apprehending the people inside.

The suspect drove a 2005 navy-blue Audi at speeds up to 90 mph.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies began chasing the suspect at 12:07 p.m. at the westbound 60 Freeway at the 605 Freeway, CHP spokesman Cheyenne Quesada said.The CHP took over the pursuit on the freeway.

Nearly half an hour later, the car had raced through downtown and into South L.A. At one point, just off Vermont Avenue, a CHP vehicle bumped into the side of the Audi. The Audio drove up over a curb and crashed into a metal fence on the car’s righthand side before landing on the road again.

Smoke trailed from the back of the car as it continued driving through South L.A. The back right tire was flat.
