Former Irvine soccer coach charged with lewd conduct with teen player

A youth soccer coach is expected to be in an Orange County court Friday for charges of lewd conduct with a teenage girl, prosecutors said.

Ian Matthew Ebert, 26, has been charged with three felony counts of lewd acts on a child, facing a maximum sentence of four years and four months in state prison and having to register as a lifetime sex offender, according to Orange County prosecutors.

Prosecutors said that between August and December 2012, Ebert -- now a resident of the Santa Clara County town of Los Gatos -- worked as a coach at a private club in Irvine.

Prosecutors said that on three occasions, Ebert is accused of engaging in unlawful lewd acts with a girl between the ages of 14 and 15, with whom he had contact at the club.

The allegations were reported to Irvine police by a school counselor. He was arrested Jan. 17.

Prosecutors said that Ebert also worked as a boys’ varsity soccer coach in Irvine Unified School District between 2009 and 2012, and that further investigation is continuing.
