Lanes on the westbound 10 Freeway were shut down Monday night between the 101 Freeway near downtown after a big-rig accident.

The big rig was carrying a load of pipe, which spilled across lanes, authorities said.

The vehicle overturned, trapping the driver inside. He was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Traffic was being diverted to the northbound 5 Freeway. It was unclear when the lanes would be reopened, the California Highway Patrol said.
