Oceanside elementary school locked down as police search for gunman

An Oceanside elementary school was locked down Tuesday after unconfirmed reports of a person on campus with a gun, authorities said.

Officers began searching Laurel Elementary School at about 12:30 p.m. but had not found a weapon, police said.

The suspect was described as a possible homeless man with a beard, according to KNSD-TV in San Diego. He was seen carrying what ‘looked like’ a rifle case near campus, the station reported.

The school was locked down, said an employee who answered the Oceanside police dispatch line.
