Rain headed to Los Angeles area on Sunday

A low-pressure system along the coast could bring rain to the Los Angeles area as early as Sunday morning, the National Weather Service said Friday.

“There’s also going to be a cold front with that,” said Scott Sukup, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “The amount of rain will vary between a quarter-inch to three-quarters of an inch with higher amounts in the foothills.”

The lows on Saturday and Sunday night will hover around 47 degrees, and the highs during both days will be in the mid- to low 60s.

Snow could start falling at levels of 6,000 feet Saturday night and 4,000 feet Sunday, Sukup said. The snow could create some slippery spots along the Grapevine on Interstate 5.
