Los Angeles police are looking for a man suspected of shooting into a crowd outside a popular Hollywood nightclub, fatally striking one man and injuring two others.

Officers were called about 2 a.m. Sunday to the Empire Club on Cahuenga Boulevard, north of Hollywood Boulevard, an LAPD spokeswoman said. A critically injured man at the scene was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A second man was wounded and taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, a police spokeswoman said. A woman, who possibly was a bystander, was shot in the foot, she said. She was hospitalized in stable condition.

The identities of the victims were not available.

The gunman used an unknown caliber weapon and fled before police arrived. It’s unknown whether the shooting was gang-related, the spokeswoman said.

Police believe the dispute started inside the club, then spilled into the street at closing time. The club often draws long lines on weekends and typically has bouncers at the door who frisk those entering, according to website reviews of the nightspot.
