What will take you to the shores of San Clemente and a home off Bundy Drive in Los Angeles?

It’s not a Hollywood Hills celebrity map, but rather, a visual blueprint of President Nixon’s life in Southern California -- which is being remembered in a yearlong celebration of the centennial anniversary of his Jan. 9, 1913, birth.

The map, which can be found at the Nixon Presidential Library & Museum in Yorba Linda, is a top seller. It depicts noteworthy and sometimes quirky milestones in Nixon’s life, such as a hole-in-one he hit at the Bel-Air Country Club in 1961, the map says.

Last year, people snapped up more than 500 copies at $4.99 each.

Paul J. Carter, a lawyer who lives in Long Beach, began planning the map after he graduated from Drake University’s law school in 1995. He worked through 18 months of research and six months of collaborating with an artist before the map was published.

Carter said he admired Nixon’s devotion to his family and the people who stood with the controversial president through tough times.

“If you were a bad guy,” Carter said, “people wouldn’t stick with you like that.”
