Former Assemblyman Mike Feuer might be adding L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to his endorsements list in his quest to unseat City Atty. Carmen Trutanich.

Villaraigosa is scheduled to appear with Feuer at a news conference Thursday morning at the Variety Boys and Girls Clubs in Boyle Heights. The mayor’s office confirmed the appearance but would not comment on any endorsement Wednesday.

The Feuer campaign said that its candidate would announce a ‘high profile’ endorser’ at the news conference.

Trutanich and the mayor have not had a particularly cordial relationship since Trutanich defeated a Villaraigosa ally, then-Councilman Jack Weiss, for the city attorney post in 2009. Trutanich has complained that Villaraigosa has cut the city attorney’s budget severely in the last few years.

Besides Feuer, private attorneys Greg Smith and Noel Weiss are challenging Trutanich in the March 5 municipal primary. The presence of four candidates in the race makes it likely that it will take a May 21 runoff to determine a winner.
