Lost Rosemead dog held for ransom is found in Sacramento

A lost dog held for ransom was found in Northern California, 400 miles from home, and will soon be reunited with its owners in the San Gabriel Valley.

Marlene Bolivar was devastated in August when Lucky, a 4-year-old Pomeranian, ran out of the family’s yard in Rosemead. Her family canvassed the neighborhood and hung flyers offering a reward.

Within weeks, a mysterious woman called their house asking how much Marlene would pay, according to Fox40 Sacramento.

“I don’t really have a lot of money, so I didn’t offer a big amount,” Marlene said later. “The lady told me let me see what my friends say, and I’ll give you a call back.”

That woman never called back, and Marlene thought Lucky was gone forever. But five months later and more than 350 miles away, Lucky was been found wandering the streets of Sacramento.

This time, the runaway pooch was taken into the right hands. An animal control officer picked up the cute, friendly Pomeranian near 65th Street and 21st Avenue on Monday, and brought him into the Sacramento city shelter.

Animal control officers scanned his microchip and contacted Marlene. How the dog got all the way to Sacramento remains a mystery. “He’s not talking. I’ve asked him repeatedly how he got here, and he’s not talking,” joked Sacramento Animal Control Officer Gina Knepp. “His feet look OK, so he must have hitched a ride with somebody,” she added.
