On Roe vs. Wade 40th anniversary, an anti-abortion protest in O.C.

On the 40th anniversary Tuesday of Roe vs. Wade, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision on abortion, anti-abortion activists in Orange County held a protest outside a Planned Parenthood office.

Six people were scheduled to speak at the protest, including the spokeswoman for Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust and the founder and director of the La Habra pregnancy center, according to a news release from the Coalition to End Abortion.

The coalition organized the 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. event at 700 S. Tustin Avenue in Orange.

The Supreme Court ruling held that women had a constitutional right to choose to terminate a pregnancy in the early months.

A recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that 53% of those surveyed said abortion is “not that important compared to other issues,” which is up from 48% in 2009.

People who view abortion as a “critical” issue for the nation rose from 15% in 2009 to 18%.

The Coalition to End Abortion says it is protesting Planned Parenthood because of the number of abortions the organization performs each year.
