Student charged in bomb threat at Huntington Beach High

A Huntington Beach High School student is set to be arraigned Tuesday for leaving a note on a teacher’s desk threatening to detonate a bomb, law enforcement officials said.

Christopher Michael Casey, 18, is charged with one felony count of reporting a false bomb threat and could face a maximum sentence of three years in state prison, if convicted, according to a joint statement from the Orange County district attorney’s office and Huntington Beach Police Department.

Authorities said that a secretary at the school found the note on a teacher’s desk shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, the same day as the school shooting in Connecticut.

The secretary alerted the school’s principal, who notified Huntington Beach police. Casey was arrested at the school.

Investigators said they did not find any bombs or explosives on the campus, authorities said.
