A man left behind a trail of purple cough syrup after breaking through a Sacramento pharmacy’s 2-inch-thick glass window to steal medicine early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The owner of the pharmacy said three men walked up to the building around 2 a.m. and that one smashed the window, climbed in and stole cough syrup. The man appeared to have cut himself while climbing through the shattered window, leaving a trail of blood inside the store, Fox 40 in Sacramento reported. Investigators said they hope to use the blood sample along with surveillance video to identify the suspect.
