On Wednesday afternoon, employees at Rogers Jewelry said a man wearing a ski mask and holding a baseball bat approached the store. Before he could enter, an employee locked the front door.

When he couldn’t get into the store, the man got back into his Ford Focus and drove away. When Modesto police officers arrived, employees were able to provide a description of the man and the car.

A nearby officer heard the call to locate the car, and was able to pull the driver over without incident.

The driver, 22-year-old Aaron Gonzales, was arrested. Jewelry store employees identified him as not only the man who approached the store Wednesday, but also the man who robbed the same store Aug. 13. In the earlier robbery, the suspect took a baseball bat and smashed the display counter.

A search of Gonzales’ home recovered the Captain America mask and other evidence, police said.

He is now in the Stanislaus County Jail facing robbery charges.
