The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a Thursday morning officer-involved shooting in Hollywood.

The suspect, who was shot in the 1800 block of Whitley Avenue at about 7:30 a.m., is alive, said Richard French, LAPD spokesman.

‘We were told he’s been hit, but don’t know his status,’ French said.

Authorities don’t know why the officers shot the suspect or how many officers were involved. Police and rescue officials were still at the scene at 8:30 a.m.

[For the Record, 11:28 a.m. Dec. 6: The headline on an earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that the man shot by police had been hospitalized. He was not hospitalized, and as was later reported, died at the scene.]
