A 63-year-old man who fled to Georgia to avoid child molestation charges but was found by a bounty-hunter just as he prepared to escape to China was convicted Tuesday of eight felony counts involving lewd acts on a child under 14.

Patrick Stanley Pawlicki, a mold-maker who lived most of his life in Santa Ysabel in northern San Diego County, was convicted of molesting three children, including his daughter, who has Down syndrome and is unable to speak or communicate.

The trial in San Diego County Superior Court took a month and included testimony by 40 witnesses.

After Pawlicki was arrested in 2009, he was released on $1-million bail. He then disappeared; the bail bondsman hired a bounty hunter who found him in Jonesboro, Ga. He had dyed his hair, eyebrows and mustache and was ready to board a cargo ship for China, authorities said.

Pawlicki is facing life in prison when sentenced Jan. 9 by Judge Louis Hanoian.

‘This defendant stole the victims’ childhoods and committed the ultimate betrayal when he repeatedly molested his own daughter and two step-children,’ Dist. Atty. Bonnie Dumanis said.

His daughter was 9 and his step-children, a boy and a girl, were 11 and 12 when the molestation took place, according to court testimony.
