Teen detained in alleged sexual abuse of boy at Burbank day care

November 7, 2012 |  7:46 am

A Burbank teenager was taken into custody after he allegedly sexually abused a 4-year-old boy at his parents' day-care center, police said.

Detectives began their investigation Monday after the toddler's mother reported the alleged abuse and determined it occurred when the boy was at the Mejia Family Day Care, Burbank police said in a statement. Officers then went to the Pepper Street center and took the 14-year-old son of the day-care operators into custody.

The teenager was taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall, where police said he was being detained on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor. Investigators from the California Department of Social Services are assisting with the investigation and "conducting a full review of the facility," police said.

Parents whose children attend the day-care center have been notified and are also being interviewed by detectives, police said.
