Major flight delays, some cancellations, at San Francisco airport

November 30, 2012 |  1:26 pm

Rain and high winds in Northern California have led to hourlong-plus delays for many flights out of San Francisco International Airport, with many other flights being grounded.

The airport has canceled 70 flights so far Friday, and most others are arriving and taking off at least an hour after their scheduled time, said Doug Yakel, an SFO spokesman.

He added that travelers should check in with their airline before coming to the airport, which oversees about 1,200 flights each day.

Storms in Northern California have caused flooding, power outages and traffic accidents throughout the Bay Area, according to KGO-TV in San Francisco.

The rain and wind are expected to continue through Sunday, weather forecaster said.
