Multiple gold-plated guns stolen from Mission Viejo home

Several gold-plated guns were among more than $200,000 in goods missing from a home in Mission Viejo that was burglarized the day before Thanksgiving, authorities said Friday.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the theft, which included two AR-15 rifles and 15 handguns, said department spokesman Jim Amormino. Most of the firearms were gold-plated, he said.
The burglary occurred at a single-family home in the 24000 block of Delphi Street between 9:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Amormino said. Also stolen were cash and jewelry.
Thieves are believed to have forced entry through a rear window, Amormino said. The guns were kept in a large gun safe, which was pried open, he said.
‘Once inside, they ransacked the home,’ Amormino said.
Authorities are concerned about the 17 firearms on the street, he said. It is possible, he said, that the thieves could try to sell the guns.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the burglary or who knows about such guns being sold to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (714) 628-7170.
‘This is rare in the sense that Mission Viejo is a very safe community, but this can happen no matter where you are,’ Amormino said.
