A wrestler who goes by the name CM Punk hit the wrong person Monday night in Sacramento and ended up striking a fan in the back of the head with his fist.

It happened during a segment with during a "WWE Monday Night Raw" taping as CM Punk stood unprotected in the middle of the crowd, Fox40 in Sacramento reported. Someone struck him in the back of the head and he tried to hit back -- but he got the wrong person.

CM Punk’s character is a bad guy and fans can be seen on video heckling and poking him before he reacts. WWE apologized for not providing their fighter and the fans enough protection.

“Unfortunately, a few fans began shoving him and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment,” the WWE said in a statement.

The man hit was not seriously injured, but a report has been filed with the Sacramento County sheriff’s office, although it will be up to the district attorney to file any charges.
