13-year-old charged with murder in Riverside County man's death

A 13-year-old Riverside County boy has been charged with murder in the death of a 41-year-old man whose body was found inside an abandoned house.

Riverside County district attorney spokesman John Hall told the Press-Enterprise the Lake Elsinore teen would be charged as a juvenile in connection with the Sept. 18 death. The D.A.'s office has identified the juvenile but Times policy is to not name persons under 18 who are accused of crimes.

Two adults — Anthony Albert Garcia, 32, and Summer Sharmaine Stephens, 38 — were charged earlier this week with murder and other special circumstances that could make them eligible for the death penalty if convicted, the newspaper reported.

Hall said no special allegations had been filed against the teenager.

The three are accused of killing the man because he had witnessed a recent assault involving a friend of the suspects, who "thought he was a snitch," prosecutor Jess Walsh told the Press-Enterprise. They also allegedly stole alcohol from him.

The name of the victim, who died of blunt-force trauma, has not been released because authorities have not been able to find his family, the newspaper reported.

Prosecutors have described the three suspects as acquaintances, the Press-Enterprise said.
