Shakespeare performance canceled after thieves steal equipment

July 19, 2012 |  8:22 am

An arts festival in Sacramento canceled its Thursday Shakespeare performance after robbers stole thousands of dollars' worth of equipment, police said.

Speakers were stolen last week, and $20,000 to $30,000 worth of gear was taken Wednesday, including lights and soundboards, Fox 40 News in Sacramento reported.

Upcoming shows at William Land Park will be rescheduled, organizers said.

Referring to the stolen lights, one organizer said, "We are planning to move our curtain up to 6 p.m., and we'll do it in the light just like they did in Shakespeare's Globe."

Six shows were originally scheduled between Thursday and July 29. The Sacramento Police Department is investigating.
