Man found fatally shot inside car in Long Beach

July 5, 2012 |  7:03 pm

Long Beach police are asking the public for information about a man found shot dead in a parked car Thursday.

Police received reports of gunshots in the 1300 block of Temple Avenue about 10:40 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body inside a car parked at the curb, according to a department news release. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The man was later identified as Jasper Dukes, a 43-year-old resident of Las Vegas. Police did not release any description of Dukes.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting is gang-related, said Lisa Massacani, a spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

"Detectives are withholding information due to the investigation," she said. "It's still really fresh."

Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives Todd Johnson or Malcolm Evans at (562) 570-7244. Authorities said callers can remain anonymous. Anonymous tips via text or the Web can be sent at www.tipsoft.com.
