The southbound San Diego Freeway between Getty Center Drive and Sunset Boulevard will be completely closed early Thursday morning so construction crews can re-stripe the highway.

Officials at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the lanes will be shut down from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. The closure process will start about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

All southbound traffic will be detoured off the freeway at the Getty ramps and onto Sepulveda Boulevard. Motorists can then proceed to the southbound Church Lane onramp.

The closure is part of at $1-billion improvement project for Interstate 405 that includes a northbound carpool lane, rebuilt bridges, re-striped lanes and ramp work.
