A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child inside a Wal-Mart store in Oxnard, police said.

Authorities said the case began when police were called to the Wal-Mart Supercenter Store at 2001 N. Rose Avenue in Oxnard around 8 p.m. Friday. A child told officers that he had been in the electronics area of the store when a man approached him and sexually assaulted him, authorities said. The incident was captured on the store's surveillance cameras, they said.

The break in the case came the next day, when a Wal-Mart employee spotted the man seen in the surveillance video, Oxnard police said.

Officers responded to the reported sighting and arrested 39-year-old Juan Francisco Gonzalez of Oxnard. He is being held in Ventura County Jail.

"This is clearly unacceptable to us and to our customers. We appreciate the quick response of the Oxnard Police Department as well as their continued efforts to keep our stores safe for our customers, staff and the community," said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart.
