Woman killed, man shot at apartment near Whittier

Shootings near WhittierA woman was killed and a man wounded in shootings early Thursday at an apartment complex near Whittier, authorities said.

The two were discovered around 4 a.m. in the 4000 block of Workman Mill Road, where authorities first found the man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

As paramedics treated him, deputies found a woman in another area of the complex who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said the woman was in her 20s.

The man was taken to a hospital; his condition was unknown. There were no arrests, and authorities were not releasing the victims' names until their families were notified.
