Truck teeters on freeway overpass in Boyle Heights

The California Highway Patrol has closed a portion of the East L.A. freeway interchange in Boyle Heights where an armored truck is teetering on the edge of the bridge.

The crash was reported about 3:41 p.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway connector to the westbound 10 Freeway, according to CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo. A SigAlert was issued about 4 p.m. and was extended several minutes later until 5 p.m.

Sauquillo said the truck is spilling fluid, but it was unclear whether it was gasoline. The Los Angeles Police Department has closed off the 7th Street Bridge until the truck is removed. The south 5 connector to the west 10 is closed.

The cause of the crash was unknown.

[Updated, 7:26 p.m.: One of the three lanes on the connector has been reopened, Sauquillo said, but with the other lanes still closed, the SigAlert has been extended for at least 45 more minutes.]
