Police sketch of suspectLos Angeles police detectives are asking for the public's help in finding a man who attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl off the street in Boyle Heights.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m. April 10 on the 1900 block of East 4th Street as the girl walked home from Hollenbeck Middle School.

A Latino about 5-feet-9 with short-cropped hair, a pockmarked face and a tattoo of a dragon or a snake on his left forearm approached her and blocked her path, police said in a news release.

“What’s your name? Do you need a job? How old are you? You’re beautiful. I love your lips,” he said, according to police.

The girl walked around him. He got into a car parked on the northeast corner of 4th and State streets. She continued walking east on 4th toward Boyle Avenue. He drove alongside her asking if she needed a ride, then drove off and turned north on Pecan Street, they said.

When she reached Pecan Street, she saw the car parked across the street. The suspect waved cash and yelled, “You want money?” as she crossed Pecan.

“Just leave me alone,” she yelled.

The man drove up to the victim, left the car and grabbed her by the shoulders and attempted to force her into the back seat. She fought him off and ran into the Gless Meat Market for help. She suffered bruises to her shoulders and neck in the attack.

Police have released an artist’s rendering of the suspect. He was wearing a blue, short-sleeve dress shirt, black pants and black dress shoes.

He was driving a black, four-door sedan with what the girl described as a peace symbol on the hood, possibly a Mercedes.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (323) 342-8993.
