Man charged with rape in raw egg 'spiritual cleansing'

April 12, 2012 |  8:14 am

Santa Ana police say a "spiritual cleansing" involving a raw egg ended in the rape of a Simi Valley woman.

Alberto Flores Ramirez, 36, was arrested in Santa Ana on Tuesday on charges of rape and making criminal threats, KTLA-TV reported.

He allegedly told the victim at a Santa Ana motel that he could help bring her children from Mexico to the United States by performing a spiritual cleansing ceremony that involved a raw egg, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

When the first cleanse didn't work, Ramirez said a second cleanse was needed, and that the woman would need to take her clothes off, Bertagna said. The victim then stripped down to her underwear.

"During that cleansing, he jumps on the bed, grabs her, chokes her," Bertagna said in an interview with KTLA. "She screams and fights back. He tells her to stop or he's going to kill her. That's when he sexually assaults her and commits the act of rape."

Ramirez allegedly met the victim on a social networking site. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
