Vandals damage about 20 parked cars in Fontana

March 21, 2012 |  7:10 am

Police in Fontana were looking Wednesday for at least one vandal who damaged about 20 cars parked on a street.

The vandalism  happened sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 5100 block of Racoon Way. Police say someone splashed paint thinner across parked cars, causing thousands of dollars in damage. The chemical causes car paint to easily rub off.

"We're very concerned about it in this neighborhood in Fontana," Bill Rosary, whose car was vandalized, told KTLA-TV. "They could go from a vehicle to people's lives."

Some vehicles parked in driveways along the street  also were damaged. No residents reported seeing or hearing anything during the night.

"I bought my truck six weeks [ago], it's brand new," said Robert Hartert, whose truck was vandalized in his driveway. "Now I've got to [file] an insurance claim, get it repainted. It's just insane."
