Meatball-eating bear returns to Glendale home -- for more food?

March 15, 2012 |  9:55 am

The hungry bear that made its way into a Glendale man's garage early Wednesday morning returned to the same house Wednesday night, possibly in search of the Costco meatballs and tuna it had consumed the night before.

KTLA reports that the 500-pound black bear tried to get through the same garage door that resident Joey Ball had left open Wednesday night. This time the bear was stymied in its attempt.

Ball lives in the 3700 block of Beechglen Drive and said he heard noises around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. When he got up to investigate he said he found the bear in his garage sitting next to an open refrigerator.

“He had steam coming out of his nose, and he had food on his face," Ball told KTLA. “As soon as I saw him, he looked at me I thought 'Uh-oh!' So I locked the door on the dead bolt. You could hear him eating, slapping his gums."

The news station reported spotting the bear again early Thursday morning near trash cans.

The city is urging anyone who spots the bear to call Sgt. Traci Fox of the Glendale Police Department at (818) 550-6569.
