A Redondo Beach man wanted for questioning in connection with the slaying of a woman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Utah, authorities told The Times.

Russell Scott Goldberg, 49, was found in his vehicle on Interstate 15 by milepost 117 near the town of Beaver, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

"They believe it is that suspect," Cpl. Todd Johnson told The Times.

He said members of the agency's SWAT team observed the vehicle for about three hours before moving in about 9:45 p.m Utah time.

Authorities in Utah had been advised by Redondo Beach police that Goldberg might have fled there.

The woman was found dead in an apartment Wednesday morning in Redondo Beach, police said. They described her death as a homicide.

[Updated 10:32 p.m.: Redondo Beach police said the woman was Goldberg's former wife and identified her as Margaret Ann Goldberg, 45. She apparently died of gunshot wounds.]
