Smash and grab in Rancho Cucamonga
Several strip malls were vandalized early Friday morning in Rancho Cucamonga when two smash-and-grab robbers went on a crime spree, authorities said.

Two suspects were caught on surveillance video smashing windows and stealing cash from at least five stores, said Sgt. Frank Montanez of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in Rancho Cucamonga.

"They're just going out at night, busting windows in these businesses, trying to get cash," Montanez said. "These happen more frequently than people think. It just so happens a string of them happened late last night [and] early this morning."

Deputies responded to an alarm call at a strip mall in the 9300 block of Foothill Boulevard at about 1:35 a.m. Friday, Montanez said.

"Out of the five calls that came in, a couple were from alarms," he said. "Then you go to one that's alarmed and you look next door and there's another busted window."

The windows at McAlan's Pub and Aloha Hawaiian BBQ Restaurant were the "biggest takes," Montanez said.

Investigators said surveillance video shows two individuals wearing dark clothing and hoodies.
