Pedestrian on 10 Freeway dies after being struck by vehicle

Image: Map of approximate location of fatal crash. Map via GoogleA pedestrian on the 10 Freeway was struck and killed by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

The man had walked into westbound lanes of traffic near the Crenshaw Boulevard exit for unknown reasons, said CHP Officer Chris Baldonado.

He was struck at about 4:30 a.m., and traffic was blocked for a few hours while officials investigated the scene.

The westbound freeway reopened a couple of hours later.

[Updated, 3:04 p.m.: The pedestrian was a 45-year-old woman, the coroner's department said. Officials withheld her name pending the notification of her family.]
