Camp Pendleton sailor killed in training accident in Africa

A sailor assigned to a Camp Pendleton unit has been killed in a training accident in Africa, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Kyler Estrada, 21, of Maricopa, Ariz., a corpsman assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was killed Tuesday in Djibouti. Details were not available.

The U.S. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa operates the 500-acre Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti on the site of a former French Foreign Legion base.
