San Diego sailor dies from accidental gunshot to head

A 22-year-old sailor has died from an accidental gunshot wound to the head, San Diego police said.

The sailor was demonstrating gun safety to a woman in his Pacific Beach apartment about 2 a.m. Thursday when the incident occurred. The two had met hours earlier at a beach nightspot. The sailor reportedly thought the gun was unloaded.

The sailor was assigned to a special warfare command that includes SEALs. His name was not released.
