1 killed, 1 wounded in drive-by shooting, Long Beach police say

January 8, 2012 | 11:29 am

Long Beach police are investigating a drive-by shooting Saturday that left one man dead and another wounded, officials said.

Police said the two unidentified men were standing on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street at around 10 p.m., and were apparently about to enter a nearby business when a gray sedan approached. Police said at least one male suspect fired shots from the driver's side of the car, hitting both men in the torso.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where one, a 38-year-old Los Angeles man, died. The other man, 21, also of Los Angeles, had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said it appeared that the men did not know each other.

Police said the alleged shooter fled down 68th Street in the sedan, which police later found abandoned.
