Man shot and killed in Vermont Knolls

A man died in a Monday morning shooting in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of South Los Angeles, police said.

The victim, described as a man in his late 20s, was standing in the 100th block of West 85th Street at about 8:45 a.m. when a man riding a bicycle approached and confronted him, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Mitzi Fierro.

The man on the bicycle then fired two shots, hitting the victim, Fierro said. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Fierro said police had detained three potential suspects for questioning.
