Man opens fire on woman in Carson, then drives off
Police were looking Friday for a man who opened fire on a woman in Carson, striking her three times before driving off, authorities said.
The woman was sitting in her silver Kia about 12:15 a.m. in the 17500 block of Wellfleet Avenue when the gunman got out of a dark SUV, walked up to her and fired at her at least 14 times.
He shot her once in the stomach and twice in the legs, said Sgt. Jeff Fleming of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
"It was not clear what the woman was doing there, and it was not clear if she knew the man," Fleming said.
The woman drove away after being shot, heading eastbound on the 91 Freeway until she called police.
She was in serious but stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
The gunman fled the scene with another man driving the SUV, officials said.
