UC Police Lt. Alex Yao said officers responded to the business school at 2:15 p.m. after reports of a man  with a gun at Haas.

"This is an isolated incident. The campus is not in danger," Yao said. He said the suspect was being taken to Highland Hospital's emergency room.

The campus newspaper, the Daily Californian, quoted a university official as saying a school employee contacted a supervisor after seeing a person carrying what appeared to be a weapon in a bag. The newspaper quoted campus spokesman Dan Mogulof as saying witnesses heard the police say, "Put down the gun," and then heard gunfire.

KCBS 740 AM said the suspect was a man in his 20s, and no officers were harmed.

The shooting occurred in a computer laboratory, the Daily Cal reported. The newspaper said university officials issued a message to the campus at 3:48 p.m. that there was no longer a threat on campus.
