A teenager was shot and injured while sitting with his mother in a car outside their South L.A. home early Friday morning, authorities said.

The 17-year-old was struck in the left leg and left hand about 12:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 64th Street, said Lt. Julie McAlpine. The teenager was transported to a local hospital, and is in stable condition, McAlpine said. His mother was unharmed.

Police say it is unclear how many suspects were involved in the shooting. McAlpine said preliminary reports suggest the shooter fled the scene in a silver Toyota Solara.

Authorities have no information on whether the shooting was gang-related and are still seeking information on a potential suspect.
