Pot activists to greet President Obama in Coronado
Marijuana activists plan to protest Friday outside the North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado to try to catch the attention of President Obama as he heads to a basketball game on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson.
Leaders of the Cannabis Education Project would like Obama to order federal prosecutors in California to back off a crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries.
U.S. attorneys, including Laura Duffy in San Diego, are warning dispensaries to close down or face arrest and asset forfeiture. In San Diego, the city attorney has forced dozens of dispensaries to close through court action.
"We believe this is counterproductive and will only fuel the black market and enrich the cartels," the Cannabis Education Project said in a statement.
A similar protest was held during Obama's trip last month to San Francisco.
